Maybe because his friend was ok and in a position to pay for it? Some people's first reaction isn't always pissed.

 

Actually, I wasn't pissed. I got a phone call and the first thing I heard was, "Hey, what color do you want your new Lotus to be?" I laughed and asked, "Is Ultima GTR a color?"

When I loan cars to friends or borrow theirs, it's understood that the driver bears financial responsibility. There's no friction that way. The key is to having close friends that are financially capable of taking on the burden of damage.

In the instance of the Elise, he bought the car, repaired it himself and now drives it. Everyone is happy.

Fair I guess, maybe pissed was too strong of a word, either way though, glad it worked out like it did for you. I have close friends, still wouldn't let em drive my car, I feel better just leveling the playing field and not let anyone drive it...

 

Idk... I'll take people for rides. But if you can't be responsible for my vehicle the you sure as hell can't drive it.
Also, I don't have full coverage so don't even think "oh his insurance will cover it :P"

 

Good point, who knows, insurance may even drop you or crank up that rate.

 

I'll let anyone I KNOW drive my car...it's just a car. now unless it's someone i REALLY trust, i'm gonna be in it.
