Oh, and before message boards, there were the BBS's and the irc.
I used to be on irc all day when I worked for Norfolk Public Schools' Channel 47.
My office was at the back of the studio all by itself so I'd watch MTV, chat in irc, play with Lightwave 3D, and produce graphics for the editiors whenever they needed something. Nice slack job.
