So my bike sometimes sounds a like a v-twin when the engine is cold, but then turns into a normal inline 4 when it's warmed up. Does that mean I need to get my carbs synced?

mine used to do that when I was getting shitty spark.

You know of anywhere that does a decent tune-up job? I went to CCC for my 600 mile maintenance and they charged around $135 (if I can remember correctly). If I can't ind any other place that does a good job for a decent price, I'll most likely end up going to CCC for my 7,500 tune-up.
