Um well the problem would be the chipset in your dell and the chipset in the new computer are more than likely different. The hard drive will work, you just need a fresh install of windows.

Get specs for the new hardware and download all the drivers onto a CD or thumb drive from a different computer. Go into the BIOS and make sure the new drive is recognized and set as the boot drive. Boot the computer into safe mode and install all yer shit. Reboot. Paypal me 50 bucks.

That will work sometimes, sometimes if your using drastically different chipsets, the computer will blue screen even going into safe mode.

I've never seen that happen and I've done a hell of a lot of Windows transplants. It would take some really fucked or poorly engineered hardware to not be compatible with the generic Microsoft drivers.

edit: on second thought a corrupt Windows install would also cause safe mode to bsod

If you want your data backed up I can do it for you. But you need another drive or a flash drive or a external.

I saw it all the time working at best buy. It usually happened when the processors were different.

put in new drive
boot to windows CD
do a repair install of windows

or do a fresh install since it'll clear out crap you've accumulated anyway
