Every instructor is different, just like every student, and the more opinions you can get - the better. I generally do the following:
-get-to-know talk beforehand
-first session mostly observing
-goals talk afterward, game plan from there
-second session work on the 1-3 worst habits from session 1, as per goals
-take 'em for a ride to illustrate discussions about problem areas as necessary
-third session work on the 1-3 worst habits from session 2, as per goals
...and so on. Lots of positive reinforcement, but not a lot of talking/distraction. No yelling or steering wheel grabbing although I will occasionally smack a helmet or hand. I also do extremely detailed written evaluations afterward, and discuss 'em at length.
Others may have different approaches that work as well or better, but above is what I have found to be the most beneficial for my students over the years. And if it's not working, I'll happily help 'em find another instructor.

I've learned by riding with Kevin and learning from his mistakes, and as such I've compiled a lengthy list:
- DO NOT drive an SE-R
- DO have a pep talk with all necessary car components, notably the transmission, prior to each session to avoid mutiny and deserters
- DO bring a truck and trailer

I know I'll bet aken care of either way to get me a well qualified instructor for the car I'm in but for now, when viable, I'll be requesting/hoping to get vbspec. I still have a lot to learn from him
I'm pretty much going to do it how I want, tbh. I had a very very good instructor who is familiar with the car- I'd like to keep him.
I concur.

- DO have countless sets of spare axles in your spare parts bin
- DO bring a truck and trailer, or someone else's truck and someone else's trailer.
I'm going to just stick with what works and use suggestions from my bf for now.
