Default BJJ & MMA Recommendations

I've researched those that I could find, this included going to the dojos, though would like to simply have those studying represent theirs, in case I haven't visited it or just to get your viewpoint.

So far Hybrid Academy has my attention due to their cohesiveness that their team has (not to mention the entire class as a whole for that matter), the attentiveness of their instructors and location/prices (I especially like that Buck is a Crossfit certified trainer). Their focus is on Muay Thai rather than BJJ, though they do offer MMA so. Also I really wouldn't mind studying Muay Thai.

Though as I said, please do represent. Thanks guys.

Just out of curiosity, is Hybrid still around $125/month?

Depends, I'll give the one year agreement prices:

Program Standard/mo. Military/mo. Registration
Muay Thai $110 $100 $250
Combat Submission Wrestling $110 $100 $200
Judo $80 $80 $200
F.I.S.T (Kali/Silat) $80 $80 $200
Mixed Martial Arts $160 $150 $260

Their registration includes all gear required for the classes (shin guards, mouth piece, gloves, etc.) which includes shorts and shirt. Kinda renders my Tapout shorts useless, but, it's all good.

Cant go wrong with buck. When I worked at Envy bar and grill I trained with him a few times. I also know many others that have trained with him before he even had hybrid. O for CSW BTW. The next time you see him ask him about Ian "generations of wrath"

That's if you want JUST jiu-jitsu though.

To the original poster:

The guys at VBAMA (Virginia Beach Academy of Martial Arts) on rosemont rd near tcc will treat you right. They charge about 100 bucks a month for 5 hours of grappling a week, 5 hours of muay thai a week, plus open mats on friday nights.

VBAMA are also the ones that host King of the Ring and more recently, cage fights. They don't only cover jiu-jitsu in their grappling program, but Russian Sambo and wrestling as well. Mr Varner is a great guy and all of the instructors are top notch.

Yeah, like pasty said, for just BJJ, Gustavo Machado's is where I would go, the Machado's are pretty well known naturally.

I'll stop in at VBAMA's this week. I was slightly disappointed that Hybrid did not have a Brown Belt+ in BJJ, just recently found that out and I'd rather study under a Brown+, though still keeping options open. I'm not in a huge rush, though I've let myself slip out of the 205 weight class and I'm not happy about it, but it's my own damn fault, time to buckle down and get squared away again to say the least.

Jesus, you study at Gustavo's?

Could someone let us know how much Gustavo's place costs? I've called and spoken with him, but I ended up never going in there for the tour or whatever.
