Ouch. I just can't figure out the motivation for most CF hoods; the weight gains aren't usually enough to justify the crappy fit, hood pins, etc that come along with most of them. It's funny when people put them on Z32s since the stock aluminum hood is usually lighter than the CF ones. I don't buy the track excuse either since most poeple won't notice the ~10lbs of weight savings.....especially when they are still running full interiors, stereos, stock power seats, etc.

For the same reason most people buy carbon mirrors/windshield wipers/pedals/fuse covers/gas lids. Carbon just looks cool and is popular. So for the people that dont like it, Dont buy it, And dont worry

So it is just for looks. Gotcha. Neon car lights were once popular as well....

But have no function. I saved almost 20 pounds with getting my hood and mine is painted sooo.

I guess you could say the same thing about rims,or shift knobs. Thank you for your wonderful insight on how we should mod our car.

relax. You haven't been on here long, but long enough to notice that everyone voices their opinion on here and it's nothing more. It just seems that if he's having such a hard time getting the thing installed, maybe it's not worth the effort for something he'll never really notice a performance gain from? You must've had one heavy ass stock hood? My stock Z hood isn't even 20lbs total; although it is aluminum. I do agree with painting it; looks much better than the unpainted carbon IMO.

And yes, shift knobs are a pretty pointless mod IMO. I mod for a purpose; very little I've done to my cars are just for looks. I'd argue "rims" are a much more performance oriented mod since they save you unsprung weight, but more importantly, they are usually much larger and allow for bigger tires; which is something the average driver can feel. Saving ~20lbs on a hood is hardly noticable to most; running 17x9" with 275 tires is pretty noticable over 16 x 7" and 225 for example.

My argument on the hood front: Carbon does not justify its cost on the normal car (for you people that read between the lines this excludes full CF cars lol).

For example: VIS carbon hood (guesstimate) 400 bucks?
Paint: 100-200.

Thats roughly 500 dollars you could have spent to boost the actual performance of the car. I'm a bit rusty, but if I remember its something like 100 lbs is a .01 sec gain in actual speed. Depending on your platform.. 500 bucks could pick up a turbo.. cams.. etc.. that could easily be more beneficial then reducing 20 lbs of weight

You can't install hood latches, you certainly are not installing any turbos and you certainly do not need pins for track use

Well I already have the turbo, and I am still waiting for parts to be made for my car. So hence the CF hood. My stock hood is VERY VERY heavy compared to the CF hood. Plus I enjoyed the looks.
