My comment about it being Americanized was referring to the food not staff. As for the patrons, maybe the ones you saw were trying it out for the first time, just like you. Being there didn't make them Spice of India vets.

What about rajput in ghent? Don't know about authenticity (and many names for the dishes) but i dig their tofu. Hmm might be a good idea for lunch today.
I am not saying that the food is bad, just not the real deal.
I need more spices... At least when I go to Thai places around here and tell them I want it hot they can do it. Most Indian places won't even really kick the heat up that much. Much less carry some of the more off-beat dishes.
