No it isn't. Obviously you have no knowledge of Toyota trucks. That truck also didn't start life as a solid axle truck. They were not called Tacomas back then. The rest of the world knows them as Hiluxes. We know them just a Toyota pickups. There are lots of differences between the Hilux trucks and the Tacomas. I'm prettty sure that the owner of said truck took it as an insult when you called his truck a Tacoma.

Haha ya i was goin to say something but just brushed it off. If he didnt know that that wasnt a tacoma then wasnt really worth my time to explain. No it never came solid axle. They stopped doing that back in 85'. Mines a 91'. We cut all the IFS off, well the rest of the stuff that didnt get ripped off from rock crawling haha. Tacomas started in late 95' 96'.

Hey man the best way to get to know people in your are (i live in chesapeake) is to hook up with locol off road clubs. Im part of OCC (off camber crawlers) and they are based up north. Umm theres a lot of others out there i cant really remember which club was from what are though. Just do a search or the next time you see someone with a jeep or yota or anything that looks like they wheel stop and asked them stuff.
