I'm interested in getting Hondata on my 99 LS motor... I've heard people say its going to run me $1500 to get it and have it tuned... I've also heard people say it will be a lot cheaper, around $700. Anyone have Hondata on a similar motor? What were your results, for example horsepower gains, etc? Right now, I'm thinking about ordering it/having it tuned at Custom Car Care... any opinions on that? I guess my logic is that I want a decent power adder, that's reliable and affordable (meaning, I don't want to drop $3000 on turbo)... any opinions would be great

 

you can peice togeather a turbo kit for under 1500 probobly cheaper then that, I also wanna know what hondata would do for an LS... I just put one in in my 90 hatch

 

well we put hondata on a ls/vtec swap. Before hondata it dynod at 173 whp. with a stock p72 ecu and tuning.... Then with hondata on a chipped p28 ecu and tuning it put down 182 whp.

Price wise, you're looking at the cost of a conversion harness to convert to OBD1 ($100), and the cost of an OBD1 ECU ($100-150). The rest of the cost will pretty much be the Hondata system and whatever dyno time you need.

 

I don't really want to go turbo...

I'm already converted to OBD1...

I guess if its 20hp or more, I'll do it... otherwise, its probably not worth it

 

on a stock LS, you probably won't see 20hp unless your ECU was pre-tuned for something else.

 

IMO if you're not going to swap a vtec head on the block, it's better to just go old school, with a standard chipped ECU w/ stronger fuel maps since you have no variables (such as vtec) to worry about. You can get the L21 series from RM packaged w/ RM springs and retainers and a find a chipped ECU for just 700 on the dot i would bet.

...but that's just my opinon.
