Re: a brief recap of my engine swap (PICS)

if you can get a good deal on a 4.0 and AX-15 or AW4 go for it. Remember, your engine control harness and ECU must be 97+. It will also make your life worlds easier if the engine itself is 97+. I...

a brief recap of my engine swap (PICS)

This whole engine swap adventure has been quite an experience for me. It was the first time I have ever messed with an engine before. Lots of sweat, blood, curse words, and money went into this...

Re: Switching a 4cyl for a V8

go with a chevy motor. Don't do EFI unless you have $$ and are pretty experienced w/ electronics. Invest in a decent carb.

Re: my 2.5 to 4.0 swap has begun!

yeah, if I had a 96 computer it would be able to talk to the trans. Having the complete wiring harness from the 96 would be helpful too. If you located the correct wire though, you could run your...

Re: ??s about the 97 Wrangler

I'm pretty sureAX-5 will not bolt up to a 4.0. Even if it could, the AX-5 would just explode as soon as you pressed the gas. The AX-5 is a horribly weak tranny.

my 2.5 to 4.0 swap has begun!

For those of you who don't know, I drive a 98 XJ converted from 2wd to 4wd. Unfortunatley along with 2wd, my XJ came with a 2.5 from the factory. The 4 angry squirrels won't be under my hood too...

Re: offroad spots

Wheelin on private property you don't own (unless you have permission) is irresponsible and disrespectful. People who do the latter give offroaders a bad name.

Re: ??s about the 97 Wrangler

if your doing a 2.5 to 4.0 swap you need the motor-mount to "frame" brackets from the 4.0 motor.

Re: ??s about the 97 Wrangler

4.0's from 87-91 where the Renix kind. Designed by the French, Renix motors had clusterfawks of vaccum lines and a different regulating system than more modern 4.0's. 92-96 4.0's where an...

Re: newbies

I have a 4 banger in my XJ. Lots of people joke that motor but your right, that is one tough little motor. Its all about the gears. A 4-banger is fine as long as you have a decent gear ratio. I...

Re: newbies

- suspension lift (might need a slip yoke eliminator, depending on how high you wanna go)

- new tires (I would go with 33")

- If I were you I'd swap in a stronger rear axle if you plan on...

Re: lost 4wd temporarely?

hmm, your driveline angles should be ok. Do you have a 231 or a 242? Whens the last time you changed the fluid in the t-case? I would go ahead and put some new fluid in.
