Well I have put an otterbox on every phone I've ever owned that otterbox offered something for, just let me tell you a little story and you can make an assessment.
My assistant chief owns a few businesses including selling and installing alternative power solutions. He has his Droid X wrapped in an otterbox defender (just like me), It fell 100ft from atop a wind turbine he was repairing. Phone fell and hit wooden deck boards on the fishing pier below, the phone did not separate from the case. He was sure it was completely fucked so he just left it the for about an hour before climbing down, so it sat in 100 degree summer sun on a fishing pier after the fall. Phone worked perfect when he picked it up.
