wondering about SAS
 

i have a 2000 silverado 1500 and i was wondering what the basic average cost was to get a SAS done on this truck and if so were around here would be a good place to get it done at cheaply and with quality? im lookin at liftin my truck more and if im going to spend a lot of money on a lift how much more is it to go SAS, thanks

Eastern was doing an S-10 SAS for a customer a few months back.. Took a look when it was about done with the fab work.. Clean welds, good work...

I'd say do it yourself because you're going to pay out the arse if you go to a shop... I know tacomas are in the 5-8k range to have it done at a shop, if not more.

yeah ive been debating about doing it myself only problem i have with that is i dont wanna get half way through it with my front end butchered and cant get SAS to work or somethin but then cant go back to my ifs and end up messin my truck up, that and depending how long it takes, and my welder cant do heavy frame work, or at least ones i would trust to drive on lol

depending on where you get the bracket kits, that will cost you anywhere between 600 and 1000 bucks. depending on the axle you get for the front youre looking at another 500 to over 1000 easy. what are you using the truck for? how much lift do you want out of it? we need more info to make a suggestion.

well i want to get enough lift to tuck 38x15r16 tires preferably boggers or tsls, and i do an ight amount, like once a week give or take, but when i go i go! lol i have a 3inch body now i dont want to take off, i would like, like a 8in suspension or something, i have the 3inch body and 3inch torsion keys and i was going to spend the money on another 6in lift kit to get a full 8-9in suspension with the 3in body but if im going to spend the money on the kit was wondering how much more a SAS was, and i like the dependability of a leaf sprung solid axle compared to IFS, damn idler arms and pitmin arms, and alignments :mad: lol

if youre looking into putting a dana 60 up front, you need to find a ford 60 so you have the correct side diff drop. you also need to look at going to a 60 or a 14 bolt for the rear so you will be 8 lug front and rear. if you are going to do it yourself then labor wont be a problem but if youre going to pay a shop to do it im sure it will cost at least a grand or two. then keep in mind a crossover steering setup as well as possibly doing hydraulic assist youre looking at somewhere up near another thousand. most of that stuff can be built in a homebrew setup, it all depends on your mechanical aptitude.

yeah, more i think about it and look at stuff im probably going to get just a lift, maybe some time in the future or somethin or when my fab skills or confidence gets higher lol or money lol

i had a silverado with ifs and a total 11 inchs of lift and 38's. Dont do it, u might as well throw your money away. 38's are to big for ifs imo it wears hard on the front end and is likely to have "death wobble". Spend the money right the first time and do sas, i wish i had. Check out www.atlanticoffroad.com im not sure if they are still around but if they are, definally call them they are really good with trucks fast and well priced. when i used them they were located in manteo, nc

what kind of tires were they?, just wonderin, a friend has the 6in lift 3inbody on his truck, exact same as mine, and he has 37 baja claws and dosnt get it, only diff between the 2 if i got a lift is i would have 2 more inch from torsion keys so i could put 38s on it, and i thought u only got death wobble if ur tires weren't balanced correctly or something wasnt aligned right?

death wobble, technically, can be caused by a bunch of stuff. ive swapped dana 60's into trucks before and you would get them from bad pinion angle, brakes, tires unbalanced, tie rod and alignment issues...all kinds of stuff. on an ifs it can still be from multiple issues.

if youre going to use the truck to romp on then you really dont wanna go much bigger than a 35 on ifs. ive seen 37s and 38s do ok on trucks but that is with a skinnier tire that doesnt have much weight with alloy wheels so the rotating mass isnt that heavy. you do steel wheels with a 15 or 18 inch wide tire youre gonna be breaking components of your ifs all day.
