Not all off roading is illegal, only in illegal, posted spots. It's always better to know about the property before interning it. That way you don't get a nice fine to go with being stuck, or ruining a nice day out. They (Property owners, Rangers, Police) don't usually take ignorance as a excuse. Also depending on the property the fines can be pretty steep.
