Default Tires Stick Out & The Law

For those of you who have tires that stick out past your fenders, have you had much trouble from the local law enforcement or even state law enforcement for that matter?

Also, what is the allowable width in the state of Va? I remember reading it somewhere but I can't recall where.

I really want to do a 14 Bolt/60 swap in my CJ but I am really afraid of getting the harassment from the law.

Here is some reference pictures:

Stock Width:

Full Width Axles:

This CJ has 3.5" rear flares and no extended flares up front.

I failed inspection this year because of that in my XJ. Mine did not stick out nearly as much as you are planning on going. I ended up putting flares on mine to cover the tires. You have the option of using flairs or having lights that stick out that are as far out as your tires.

I think I am going to go with a 3.5" fender flare, it seems to be the only option really. Granted, I could still change my mind on the axles and go with a waggy 44 setup. The problem I am having is I need a passenger side drop axle.

Better lateral traction and more stable. Plus if you go narrowing full ton axles than you get in to custom axles which can get expensive and annoying, especially if you manage to break one and have to order a replacement. When I do my swap I am going full width...

The law from what I understand is no more than 4" from the flare.
