Something in the steering is very worn. Get a friend to work the wheel and look under the front at the linkage and see what has slop. I know solid axle fords do this when the draglink is loose.........they call it the "death wobble"

typically is a bad steering dampener (the steering shock). Replace it and it normally goes away. That would be the first this I'd replace. If that didn't fix it, I would have the wheels rebalanced.

Its worth checking but I will say in my experience the steering damper is just a bandaid for the real issue.........worn bushings, balljoints and/or wheel bearings are likely the real cause.

Just don't want someone throwin a new steering damper on and possibky ignoring a bigger (safety) issue. Give the whole front end a good inspection.

I tyoed "YJ Death Wobble" into google and this is one of the first things I found.......check the spring hangers http://www.jeepaholics.com/support/t...TOPIC_ID=54734

It's actually caused by the bushings in the trac bar in the straight axle fords, it took me quite some time to find the cause. I had completely rebuilt the front end on mine all the way down to the adjuster sleeves on the steering. 30 bucks worth of bushings in the trac bar and problem solved.

Steering stabilizers just hide it for a while but it will come back.

If it's lifted, you might need an adjustable trac bar. There's a ton of them out there for jeeps.

Edit: The 30-35 mph mark was the magic speed for me as well.

Agreed with what was said. A new steering stabilizer is just a bandaid for a real problem. A perfect steering setup should never need one. OP you need to start by retorquing everything in your front end. If that doesnt help check your alignment and your tire balancing. If none of the above helps then its time to start looking at bushings.

My list of most likely to least likely...

-Steering shock
-knuckle bearings
-bad/worn shackles (if lifted)
-driveshaft installed wrong.
