Jeep or toyota ftw. I love them both and cherokees and toyotas are pretty cheap if you look and parts are easy to come by.

Lol, i'm gonna chime in and say....don't go landrover...it seems to be quite expensive to work on :-P

I have an '00 Tacoma 4x4 with the 3.4L V6.

it's got 250,000 miles and runs like damn near new. I beat it up on the beach fairly often and it goes places that some lifted trucks have a hard time with. I know you said no Toyota, but they just work. Stay away from anything with the 3.0, but anything with the 3.4 or the older 22re is bulletproof. I also get over 20mpg with it.
