Lowering an old Dodge?

Hey guys,

I know this isnt the proper thread to talk about lowering trucks, but I know there are truck nuts here, and I hope you can help me out.

I have a 1976 Dodge D100 (early RAM) and it's RWD and is has quite a bit of fender gap, so I was wondering if there are good ways to lower it? I do not want to get into anything expensive, like hydraulics or bags. There's got to be something more simple, like lower spec factory leaf springs from another car or truck or something.

Thanks!

Yeah, that's the problem, it's not exactly a Dodge Ram, so this truck is pretty rare, sadly...

why would you want to lower that thing? ... it is already low enough as is anyway

you dont need leaf springs. go and get blocks and u-bolts. is it a spring over or under? (is the leaf spring on top of the rear axle or under? if its on top, you can flip it and put it underneath the axle. if its already under the axle, just throw some blocks in there. pep boys sells them. as for the front, just get some spindles.

I'm pretty sure the axle is under the springs, I'm not near the truck at this moment, but I'll look into that, thanks!

I think I'll try pulling the front springs and get dimensions and see if I can get another set of the same, probably from a newer truck, cut those springs, and if that fails, I'll still have the original springs to put back on.

Re: Lowering an old Dodge?

when you shorten the springs, your going to have camber issues. as for the rear, just flip hte axle. you may need to bend some new brake lines or make a few small brackets, but nothing crazy. its a quick, cheap and easy way to drop the rear.

Re: Lowering an old Dodge?

Brake lines need replacing anyway, since they're old, and I think one's busted. I will need to look more into doing something up front. I'm only interested in dropping it a few inches, not slamming it, especially since where I commute, it's NOT flat. If you look at the pics I posted, I am hoping to make the top of the tire level with the edge of the fender up front.
