Exhaust Cut-Outs

Exhaust Cut-Outs
I have a 1991 F150 with a 302 and i just got an exhaust cutout for it the other day. I have a high flow cat on there now but i was thinking of sticking the cutout right after the cat. This is illegal in Va and I'll pass inspection and all right? I'm guessing putting it before the cat isnt street legal? i got the cutout free and I can install it myself so i'm just looking for some input first. thanks

Re: Exhaust Cut-Outs
State inspection wise you should be able to pass, as the only thing you need really is a leak free exhaust with a cat that exits 12 inches past your cab (being that its a truck). BUT a cop CAN stop you and ticket you for illegal modification of your exhaust.
edit: as long as the cutout is behind the cat, most inspectors would be ok with it.

thanks for the response......i was plannng on sticking it back a foot or two just to get the fumes away from the cab anyways. i"m not looking for any power gains but simply more noise from the exhaust

Re: Exhaust Cut-Outs
mine passed right after the headers .. true duals on a 84 chevy k10 .. if you think bout it .. its 3 bolts to remove the cap, or 3 bolts to unbolt the exhaust from the header .. no real diff .. as long as its not a cable or electric cutout, it should pass
