Default c-clip for a ford 9

Pickin up a 1990 f150 tomorrow, the guy claims the rear needs a new c-clip. I have little experience with axels, you guys know how hard it is to replace? Thanks.

if it has a hogs head/3rd member there is no way for it to be a c-clip axle (unless it has a removalable rear cover ) . . . . it's probably an 8.8 which is a c-clip axle (which won't have a drop out 3rd member like a 9

Thanks for the responses! I picked it up today, clunks 2 or 3 times when accelerating from a stop and that’s about it. I don’t think the guy knew all that much about it because it doesn’t have a ford 9, I believe it is an 8.8 as chevymudtruck said. It seems almost like a bad U-joint to me but im not too sure.
