Default 4.10 swap in '99 Jeep Wrangler

I know it's common, but what all is involved? Everyone in the Jeep world talks about it like it's rotating tires or something. How much should I expect to spend?

I can't maintain speed on the highway to save my friggin' life! lol..

'99 Wrangler, 33x12.50's, 5-speed... Lots of in town, and lots of highway driving. 4.10's ideal?

since no one else is jumping in here. Go by this chart to tell you what to change your gears to. I'm guessing you have 3.73's? 4.10 will help, but think about what your future plans are. If you plan on wheeling with bigger tires you may wanna wait and gear higher, because gear swaps are expensive when you pay someone to do them. If you are paying a shop to do it and buy new parts you are looking at about 400-450 in parts (Gears/shims/seals/bearings etc Front AND Rear) and typically people charge between 4-600 dollars labor to install.

From my understanding they're 3.07's stock. I plan to wheel, but will be spending significantly more time on the road driving both city and highway so that's going to take more of a priority than wheeling in terms of which gears I go with. Everyone says 4.10's would be perfect, per all Jeep forum members. lol

Thanks for the feedback

I take it you have a 4.0 since you don't already have 4.10s. I personally have 3.73s and 33X12.5 but also have the six speed. It does well enough for me but 4.10s would be a fairly safe bet as well. If you don't know someone who does gears that you can really trust to do them right be prepared to spend about 600-1200 in labor alone. May be cheaper to pull the axles and drop them off.
