4.0L Ford Ranger motor help
I've got a 2001 Ford Ranger with a blown motor. I've got a 2001 Ford Explorer (v6 4.0L) motor. I would have thought it would fit in, however what I read said it would not fit.
I assume it's something like a timing chain cover or valve cover that needs to be changed in order to make it fit. Can anyone give me some guidance on what needs to be changed to make it fit?

Re: 4.0L Ford Ranger motor help
if your going to try and put an explore engine in there you mine as well put the 5.0 in there, if your going to do all the work why have the same thing you used to have, if you dont want to do all that go to a junk yard and see if they will swap ya a explorer engine for a ranger engine, johnsons mustang and truck parts has a ton of ranger and explorers.........

Re: 4.0L Ford Ranger motor help
Thanks, I'll give that a shot. I got the Explorer motor for only $300 and I thought it'd be a clean swap since they're both 4.0L and i'm not looking to do too much with the truck anyways.
I'll go see if I can get a trade for the explorer motor. If not, would you happen to know what would cause cause the 4.0L Explorer motor not to fit into the hole for a 4.0L Ranger and what I'd need to take off the old motor to make it fit.
Thanks
