Default 2004 explorer 4x4 ?

I have a 2004 Explorer xlt 4x4. There is three buttons on the dash one say's 4x4 low,4x4 high and 4x4 auto. When I put it in 4x4 high it shows a little light that say's 4x4. When I push the 4x4 low no light shows but on the button there is a light that blinks and then stops. If anybody has or nows anything your advice would be great.

you have to be in nuetral to engage 4x4 low.

Don't use it unless you need it unless you want to break something.

Never use 4x4 low on dry paved roads.

Around here you will never need it unless you go offroad. You l should only use 4x4 high; unless you are stuck or about to get stuck
use 4x4 low

that is true but not on dry pavement, you will cause more problems in the long road.
If you don't need 4 wheel drive and don't know how to use it then why buy a 4x4 truck?
Gas mileage is worse?

probably because having a 2wd explorer is retarded. this coming from a person that owns one. of course, it has a 2.3T in it

If you do need it you have it and the selling value is more than a two wheel drive. I also plan on getting a boat I'll see what that little v6 can do. Thanks for your post.

A 2.3T? From what?

Two wheel drive Explorer is only good if you want something to lower...and I'd only get a two wheel drive Explorer if it had a 5.0.

4.0 sucks... Thanks for putting an underpowered 160 horse V6 in my 5600 lb SUV Ford! I love the 12 mpg I get!

Nah but really I love my Explorer.
