Thumbs up Skyline Power for 300ZX (Question for Jason)

Jason (or anyone else interested,) last time we talked about a powerplant for my Z, I know we had a few ideas, like obviously a VG30DETT, a 13B TT (2 rotary,) the lesser-known but almighty 20B 3 rotary Cosmo engine, and of course the RB25DET. Now, my concern is, would Bilskie be able to assist me if I chose otherwise [from the VG30DETT?] Granted I love the flexibility with revs in the V6, but also the slightly different exhaust note and reliablity of an Inline 6. The 3 Rotary offers tasty torque throughout the powerband and insatiable horsepower, easily achieving 900 rotary ponies with ease. And the 13B is just fucking vicious. Here's the prices I have for JDM versions (all with tranny and turbos, if stock applied):
93-95 13B TT - $1600
93-95 20B - $4200
90+ VG30DETT - $1350
RB25DET - $2000

Now, with price and all considered, if Bernie or someone else can match Bernie's expertise and price, what do you think? I'd like to break the norm with the VG30DETT.

... providing you have the money to fund this. just keep the VG30... those others i dont know if they would even fit / line up right. in regards to the 20b... thats ALOT of custom work needed to be done. that alone your prob looking at some crazy high numbers. i talked with peter ferrell and he sais its alot of work to even put one of those into an FC or FD

to be honest, i know this sounds super ricer, but have you ever considered hte SR20DET?

it will free up lots of weight in the front end, maknig your car lighter, handle better, and it's pretty unique. It's easy to make power on an SR20.

Otherwise, if you can get the RB25 in easy, go for it, they're awesome motors.

Awesome input fellas, but I too have done my homework in terms of custom fab and money. All things considered, I just intended to get some feedback... and yes, the Skyline motor will fit. Rotaries can go into anything, hence my choice of possibly a 13B TT. 20B cosmos rule though!!! hah, thanks

Feel free to offer more input, I'm open to ideas or any knowledge.

oh, and the SR20 I don't consider Rice, I don't hold Nissan in any forms of rice (stock.) Great company, if you slit my wrist i'd bleed Nissan red. the RB25 is a very popular (becoming, anywho) choice for 240 owners to give supras some run for their money.

I've been following the guy who did the LS1 V8 corvette engine swap. I think it was the LS1, could have been a different model corvette. But that was also in consideration... thoughts? there is an instructional pamphlet out specifically for this swap into a Z.

Look, If your going for HP numbers anyone of those will do the job granted that they are fully built, pistons, rods, rings, valves, springs, retainers, cams, port and polsihing the head, stand alone managment, lots of dyno time, race gas and alot of money. I've talked to you a few times about this and I will admit a RB26 or 25 would be a cool idea BUT... its not cost effective in my oppion. Now the VG30DETT has been known to now make over 1000Whp"Russle's widebody silver TT at Z1 using GReddy 20g turbo's" . the HKS kits people have seen on average 500-750whp and the GReddy 16g's have been known to make up to 800whp. I am personally not looking for a dyno queen but more on the lines of a very nasty street car. I plan on upgrading my turbo's when they go out with some GMS Sport either 500's or 550 or possibly 600's. more then likly ill do with the 500's because on 93 oct and just a re burned ecu people have made between 420-460whp on pump gas and 480 on race gas. As is my car only makes 340-360whp and traction is a BIG problem in 1rst in 2nd. I couldent admagine what its going to be like with over 400whp let alone what it would be like with 700+whp.

as for money and hp do a vg30dett its more cost effective, its cheaper, and with just bolt ons you will make over 300whp close to 320-330whp with just Intake,Exhaust,ECU upgrade and some sort of way to controll the boost. If you buy a JWT ecu upgrade for the TT they will send boost jets witch are little pills that go inside your vac lines to trick the waste gate to stay closed untill 14 psi is reached. I use to run on those for the longest time and I gotta say my car ran very good with just that set up I went 12.9 at 111mph on a 2.1 60foot. then I changed to a controller, did some down pipes, and some test pipes and a UR crank pulley and now my car is even better.I ran 12.70 at 113.78mph so that shows my car has more potential then 12.7 But I personally haven't got there yet. But for all in all... if you wanna be able to beat 9 out of 10 cars on the street today "if thats what your looking for" all you need is a stage 3 ZTT,Intake, exhast, ecu, boost controller, and there ya have a 400 crank horse power and car with over 300whp.

DO A VG30DETT!!!

Now on another side note about Bernie. He is a great guy. He has my Z right now and is putting my jspec trans in it tonight with my new clutch disc and read line fluid for the trans and rear end. Now he is also the tech writer on how to do stuff and how to fix stuff on Z's for Sport Z magazine. they interviewed alot of people for the job but no one knows as much or anything close to Bernie so he is now the writer for the tech section for Sport Z magazine. Id stay with the guy who knows best for the Z.

seriously why would you consider anything other than the VG?? itll be by far the cheapest, and most likely to get you the results you desire, and Im pretty sure itll be less prone to break down seeing as that engine is supposed to go into your car, cross the 20b off for sure, unless you can do custom fab yourself, seeing as it cost $15,000+++ to install and make the cosmo motor run in an FC, which was already a mazda and a rotary, so stop living in a fantasy world and just get the vg30dett, and spend the rest of the money in the bank for repairs
