What is the back story with the title?

he bought it from a guy who never got around to building it and never registered it/applied for a new title from when he bought it (didn't want to pay I guess if it wasn't being used). spindrift bought it and figured that he could just register as if he bought it from the owner on title, however there was a discrepancy with the length of time since it was reported sold or something to do with a date issue and dmv wouldn't issue a new title or register. he was able to track down the owner on title and last i heard he was going to apply for a new title and essentially complete the transaction for him. BUT apparently that fell through. I would guess the orginal might have incurred some fees if he applied for a new title and subsequently "admitted" ownership after all these years of reported sold. thats the jist of it, not that it means much but i know for a fact it's not stolen or anything. I'm sure spindrift will chime in the details.

The original title was altered(sale date),and obviously DMV wouldnt take it. I bought it from someone who skipped titles so I had to track down the original owner, finally did and he was nice enough to sign the papers saying everything was ok. However he made a mistake on the correction form and used whiteout so they wouldnt take it. I was doing all this in TX and had to leave the base I was at so didnt get to finish the process, get to VA to continue and they say I have to finish it in TX. TX says nope cause I dont live there anymore.

So basically I have a title, the original owner saying everything is ok, but no state will acknowledge my ownership.

edit: Forgot to mention it does have 30 day temp tags on it from TX currently so it can be legally driven home this month.
