The right side of the userinfo block is almost always less than the left side unless the user doesn't have an avatar at all. So that's not going to help any.

Trust me, I've already thought through these issues when we switched from the old vB 2.0 styles to the vB 3.0 ones.

Would be different if I felt a reason to pay for membership but that reason was gone during the owner switch. I think avatar size is fine. There isn't much more you can do to "improve" the site other then move it out of Mamby Pamby Land and be less carebear status.
