this is just a suggestion but one of my friends that i had a fallen out with own sanantonio-imports.com and another who owns uscarmeets.com and both sites have a chat box which is pretty much like a chat room on the home page on the top. just wanted to throw that out there as a suggestion.

We got these things called threads, and they are like chats but on a message board.

As for a chat/shoutbox/etc. type thing, that will have to wait until the next major version (we're on 3.8.x now with 4.0.x being the next one) of vBulletin is released before I would consider installing it.
