Default NSCRA Summer Power Tour Round 1 Finals Summary

June 13th, 2010 was quite a day for Sport Compact Drag Racing. The weather was hot and humid, with a good chance of rain but that didn’t stop the ‘die hards’ from racing! Here was the outcome of this day full of adrenaline at Maryland International Raceway.

Torque Solution 11.50 Index class:

We hear people say index racing is not exciting. Well after these results, many may feel differently about the class which has become a big success at NSCRA events. In the final round it was Jason Ramkissoon and his 97’ Nissan 240sx against Mike Hatcher and his 94’ Honda Civic. Hatcher has a good run with a 11.625 @ 113 mph but Jason’s 240 was really dialed in and won the race with an 11.509 @ 92 mph. With close racing like that, enthusiasts were standing in their seats!

So don’t miss the excitement on July 25th as the Torque Solution 11.50 index class shows you what its all about.

Spec Clutch Street Stock:

This is a class NSCRA only runs in the Northeast right now, but it may be catching on down South in a real hurry. If you have a daily driver you want to race with the stock motor and no power adders, then this class is for you! On this day Matt Ivan and his 1995 VW would be the first winner of the Spec Clutch Street Stock Class. Ivan’s12.67 @ 108 mph wins over Kevin Parsons13.48 @ 104 mph in his 2002 Acura.

A day of racing in your daily driver no tickets and if you win you get paid! Now that has to be the BEST DEAL IN TOWN!

The NSCRA Motor Street Class:

In the finals it was Tim Grey (TGR) up against Loan Nguyen in the Drive Shaft Shop Civic. Up top, it was Tim Grey to cross the line first with a 10.803 @ 123 mph to Loan’s 10.9 @126 mph. Tim wins by .114 of a second. Can we say more to NSCRA’s commitment to the best HEADS UP DRAG RACING Sport Compact has to offer!

Keep an eye on the NSCRA Motor Street Class as your local favorites battle it out in Round 2.

South Florida Turbo True Street Class:

This upset win was the talk of the day! In the semi finals, Ernie Taylor’s RX-7 wins over internet favorite Robb Mapps and the NRG Built True Street Civic. In the final round, Ernie and his RX-7 faced Roger Quarrcoopone with his 92’ Prelude. Ernie Taylor cuts a .084 light on his way to defeating Roger with a 9.79@ 142 mph. As Ernie Taylor takes the win in Round 1 of the NSCRA Summer Power Tour, Robb Mapps was heard saying, “We will be back in July and 9.4s-9.3s will be on the menu.”

To all you South Florida Turbo True Street Class Racers and Fans: Round 2 has been set to take place on July 25th at Maryland International Raceway!

The Driveshaft Shop Outlaw Class:

Never a dull moment here in the semis’!! It was Josue Echavarria in the TD Autowerkes Civic and Jonathon Reynolds in the Supertech Integra. Due to weather, after the 1/8 mile of the track, that race had to be done over. Unfortunate for Reynolds and the Supertech Integra who broke their tranny on that run and couldn’t make the call. Now it was up to Chris Miller and the NRG Team to stop TD Autowerkes from taking the win and bragging rights back to the SE. Chris Miller trees Josue Echevarria with a .118 reaction time and never looks back as he flies thru the traps @ 172 mph stopping the clock with a 8.61 to Josue’s 9.01 @ 166 mph. Team NRG has done a great job with their car but by the looks of it, the field is closing in on him. With four other FWDs running in the 8s, TD Autowerkes being the latest, the camouflage wrap shows NRG is ready for war and we are sure there’s more to come.

Don’t miss out in Round 2. Wear your camo gear and support Chris and the NRG team as they BATTLE!

Clutch Masters Pro Stock Class:

This is a classic story of a 1955 VW Bug a Drag Racer and his pregnant wife due any minute at home! The fight for the win came down to Oliver Frey and his 55’ VW Bug and Jason Yerby in the Brain Crower and Prayoonto Racing 03’ Honda Insight. It would prove to be a great day for Oliver as he takes the win with 9.76 @ 136 mph to a 11.59 @ 100 mph. Looks like Jason had trouble on that run as it was all ‘Oliver’ that day. Congratulations to Oliver Frey for his Win and the Frey family on their new addition.

What a statement for a TRUE Drag Racer, with wife due at home while ‘your’ at the track putting in work and bringing home the check to prove it.

EuroExport Hot Rod Class:

It was Charles Walker with his RAW S2J and Vijay Ramkissoon in the Big Daddy Performance Supra both representing the SE in the finals. Chris Gore and The South Florida Turbo lost in an earlier semi-final due to nitrous failure. In the end, it was Charles Walker to take the win with a slower 8.30 @ 181.74 mph to Vijay’s 8.23 @ 175 mph. An INCREDIBLE win at the tree for Charles Walker with a reaction time of .324 to Big Daddy’s .431.

This race gave true meaning to, “IF YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE!” So don’t you SNOOZE on July 25th and miss racing like THIS!

Mike Turbo Modified Class:

In this class we had Edwin Burgos in La Otra (80’ Toyota Starlet) and Victor Flores in Kako (72’ Datsun 1200) out to put on a show! During the day Victor piloted the Datsun with a 7.11 @ 191 mph to set a New Record! Making it the Fastest SR20DET and Datsun 1200 in the Country. Either way, the 7.1 run didn’t intimidate Edwin Burgos as he took the win in the finals with a 7.4 @184 mph over Victor’s 17.23 @ 48.36 mph with complications.

Great day for both cars as one takes the win and the other sets a New World Record. I’m sure we will be seeing more of these cars!

NSCRA Extreme Compact Class:

This was an “All Cruz Racing” Final! It was Boris Rojas driving the Cruz Racing 02’ Toyota Solara against Manny Cruz and his 02’ Mercury Cougar. Manny red lights trying to get out ahead of Boris. The foul doesn’t matter to Boris as he takes no chances and pilots the Cruz Racing Solara to Victory with a 7.26 @ 177 mph ; one detail on this run is the Solara ran 4.46 to the 1/8 mile. That 4.46 time represents a possible six second pass for Boris Rojas and Manny Cruz Racing so look out for them on July 25th at NSCRA's Round: 2 of the Summer Power Tour at Maryland International Raceway. After the race, we asked veteran racer Manny Cruz if he taught Boris Rojas everything he knows. Manny replies “Na, he’s still learning” in a joking way as he laughs.

We are sure Manny and the rest of the NSCRA Extreme Compact cars will be out for the win on July 25th at MIR. If you don’t believe Sport Compacts can run in the 6s, don’t miss this class because seeing is believing!
