why does my rear tire keep slipping?
Hey guys- I have a 2001 ZX-6R that keeps spinning the rear tire. Even on the warmer days when the roads are nice and warm, and I've been on the bike at least 20 minutes so the tires are more than warm enough, it'll still spin the rear wheel at and above 10,000 RPM in 1st gear, and if I hit 2nd hard it'll spin going into 2nd as well. The bike isn't majorly modified... lowered 2 inches front and rear, slipon exhaust, K&N filter... When I got the bike during the summer the tires were brand new (Dunlop Sportmax) and would hold traction as long as I was pointed straight (still would spin if i punched it in first while still in lean).
I know it's due to the tire being crap, but what would cause it to die like this? I had one run at VMP where I launched too hard and spun the rear, almost sending me into a wall (luckily I got a foot down and kept the bike upright), could this have wrecked the tire?
Just curious.

so many things come to mind, but in a turn if you are "punching" the throttle your rear tire spinning is normal. Your skills might not be up to the normal level though.

not in the turn, coming out of it. would it make you happier if I said gently massaging the throttle forward?

Wear is definitely increased by driving conditions, i.e. the track is brutal on tires, so wear may be advanced if you've been to the track, and if you hammer it often wear can advance as well.
Also, even if the ambient air temp is higher than average the ground/road surface may still be cool and slippery, especially in shaded/lesser traffic areas.

and how much do you weigh?
a friend of mine weighs no more than 120 on a 03 zx6 and it spins through 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd with him on it. but with anyone else it doesnt spin a lick.

Re: why does my rear tire keep slipping?
my guess who be a combo of things 1st when a bike is loowered and or streched it spins alot easier 2nd you are running on shitty tires. also when and who last adjusted your chain it is possible tire is not square on bike.
