getting water on your guages and/or shock won't hurt them at all.

i usually (when i have a bike that actually has paint other than flat black) wash the bike with a good car wash concentrate, blow it off with compressed air (not at any seals or bearings though) and shine it up with honda polish. that stuff is awesome, it'll make anything shine.
don't get it on your tires though.

you can wax it if you wanna, but honda polish has a wax in it. if you wax it, don't get wax on the seat(s) as it leaves nasty white crud all over it.

DO NOT use any sort of tire shine. that stuff is usually pure silicone, and it's slippery as hell. not good.

on a side note, if you're trying to take off any stickers (like those warning labels on most gas tanks and whatnot) peel the sticker off the best you can, and it'll leave that nasty sticky residue where the sticker used to be. spray honda polish on the residue real thick, let it sit for a minute, and it'll wipe right off.
