Turn signal question

So, i went down the other night and luckily only lost a peg, bent my bars, and lost a rear turn signal an mount. I am working on ordering new parts and I'm looking at getting an rear light with integrated turn signals. My question is the legality. I have looked about and have seen a few "yes they are legal" and some "no they aren't legal". I know there are some guys on here that are inspectors I figured I'd ask you folks.

from the code:
https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/leg...19VAC30-70-360

1. Signal devices are not required on motorcycles; however, if installed, they must operate and be inspected.
2...
3. Signal lamps installed on the rear of the motorcycle shall be red or amber and shall be located on each side of the vertical centerline of the motorcycle as far apart as practicable but not closer than nine inches, measured from the optical centerline of the lens, and shall be located on the same level and not less than 20 inches above the ground level.
so, strictly speaking they're not legal because they're closer together than 9 inches.

edit: "from optical centerline of lens"... so if the center of the left "half" of the integrated light is 9 inches or more from the center of the right "half" of the lens, you'll be okay i think.

mathematically this means you need an 18" wide rear light... which you probably don't have.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Guess I'll be looking into another option. Won't be riding for a few weeks anyway.

I've never seen or had a bike fail inspection for integrated signals. I've never had any rations of shit given over them. Never known anyone of my vast majority of biker buds get any shit or fail for them either. I've also never run anything but integrated signals.
So maybe that puts it into a "meh it's illegal but nobody gives a shit bracket." I do know if you have signals you must have all of them and they must work. I have been hit for having rear but not fronts.

Not sure never run those. I know that it just has to have a light source it doesn't have a lumen requirement PreludeDriver had a flashlight on his stunt R6. Lmao

Holy Shit, that is amazing, I'll keep that in mind. Must keep a flashlight on me at all times with a small roll of duct tape.

He didn't have a flashlight, he actually had a LED light. I know because that bike is sitting in my garage now haha. It is technically illegal, but never heard of someone failing. Also, never heard of someone failing because of having rears and not having fronts. I had none on my CBR and had a bicycle mirror zip tied to my clip on and still passed

I assume it's one of those situations where if you get an asshole you'll fail if it's a reasonable person you'll be fine.
He switched it up to an LED later it was what looked like an LED headlamp before.

As for the signals I don't run them at all so I'm not sure my tail was integrated but I don't use the signals so I had no troubles.
