I know someone who got an in accident..... and hes not alive anymore. It like this you take a risk at whatever you do, your chances are just alittle greater on a bike. I can began to count the number of times that I was almost hit by cars, and sometimes other bikes. Just ride and say fuck it. People who don't ride dont know how fun it is. And you'll always hear (you going to kill yourself) just take your time and walk before you run.

my dad has a couple- which do you want to hear?

1. The one where the mexican guy without a license or insurance pulled out infront of him and he sailed through the air and landed a 100 feet from where he was hit, broke his wrist, bruised his heart and had an compound fracture of the patela?

2. how he changed his front tire, didn't warm it up and lowsided it a block from the house, when he was supposed to sell his custom built cbr 600rr

3. when he was hit a block from his house by a papa johns pizza guy and crushed his l2-l4 vertebrae.

tell me, which one.

i dunno, i like my night riding bike stories more, of course if you only focus on the bad parts then of course theyre not gonna be as good, but i mean ive gotten in 3 wrecks, NONE as bad as your father's though, just stupid shit on my part, but i hardly ever retell those, just the good times of riding with my friends, like when we went to O.C. beach week, etc.

Warming up a brand new tire makes no difference  ....................you'd be better off taking sandpaper to it.

I laid mine down the 2nd day I had it doin about 55. I broke my right wrist, 2 fingers, road rash from my palm to my elbow, road rash on my right shoulder, stressed tendons in my right shoulder, took the skin completely off my right kneecap all the way down to the bone about 2 1/2 by 3 1/2", road rash from my kneecap 14" up my thigh, chipped ankle bone, brusied hip. The bike had $2600 worth of damage to it. Wrecking sucks, but worrying about wrecking when you ride is the worst thing you can do. Just have fun and be careful.

being a dumbass trying to do a burnout on my 750 i didnt ease out the clutch i just popped it bike jumped and lowsided, all at about less than 2 mph. no damage to me or the bike. just embarrassing, but that was the whole point of stunting or learning to on a closed road with some experienced friends.

Ive ridden with people and seen them go down but I, myself, have never laid a bike down yet.

I'm guessing you were sitting on the bike? If you stand that'll never happen.

Re: Tell me your wreck stories

I've seen enough in front of me to not like riding in large groups unless I know the people well.

my wreck was on I64 heading towards Va Beach. I was on the Hampton side and went into the tunnel in moderate traffic. The person in front of me was going slow so I used a little front brake to scrub off about 10 mph to go from 45 or so down to 35mph. Front tire hit a metal access plate or just some oil and I lost the front and went sliding and rolling. Had enough time to look behind me while I was sliding to make sure that I wasn't going to be hit from behind. I was wearing a mesh jacket and textile pants....both wore through and I got rashed up a little. Also slid on my helmet a little. Got up...picked my bike up and rode out of the tunnel. Got down to the beach and had blood running down my leg but was ok. Road rash on my knee was pretty much down to the bone and took about 3 weeks before it was all healed up. Would have been a little worse if I hadn't had the textile pants on. There was nothing realistically I could have done to not wreck so it was one of the few occasions where it was road conditions that caused me to wreck.

he has been riding for more than 20 years, taken numerous schools, driven in more than a dozen countries. He's taken his bikes (plural) to the Nuremburg Ring, Hockenheim, Elkhart Lake to name a few. And I have NEVER seen him take sand paper to his tires. The ride from where his tire shredded to our house was about 5 km. he was getting a little shakey on the on ramp but he couldn't believe it when he low sided coming into the house.

heh.. because its yourself you only need to worry about..

i have some friends that have the "i dont ride like a jackass, so i WONT wreck.." outlook, but its people with that attitude that will eat shit.. hate to say it, but some dumb bitch will cut you off and youll get fucked up eventually, just dont be so cocky about your luck.

my "dip shit" story was...

about a month after i got my bike i was riding down the street to get gas. my friend was about to go through a green light and i didnt want to get left behind. i looked down for a split second after i gunned it and saw 70mph, when i did that i caught a brake light out of the corner of my eye. thinking i was going to rear end my friend, i grabbed way too much front brake (had only been riding for a month), and locked up the front tire. kinda crazy, but didnt break anything. just road rash and to this day, i still have a weak right shoulder... road rash sucks, i was only wearing a t-shirt and some pants.

And you got all pissed off over nothing and completely missed my point........

New tires slipping have NOTHING to do with getting warmed up.

When tires are new they have this coating on them that makes them slippery as hell. Any shop will tell you to take it easy on new tires for about the first 100 miles or so, to give that shit some time to get eaten off the tires.

I put on new shoes every race weekend; and no matter how much time the warmers stay on them they will be slippery for the first few laps. That's what we call "scrubbing" new tires in.

I was jokingly saying that he could have taken sandpaper to them and would have done a hell of allot more for the tires than trying to warm them up.

Any other questions? :dunno:

I thought it'd be more than 100 miles...but I'm pretty new to bikes so I'll take your word.
Im assuming that your track tires/slicks have less of a coating from the molding machine or whatever the factory uses? Or are your first couple of laps at the track ridden pretty 'hard' to get rid of the coat?

CBR600F4 01-30-2006 05:12 PM

Re: Tell me your wreck stories

I don't see why the coating would be any different......................and yes, going around a track at an average of 100+ would eat that crap off allot quicker than normal highway and roadway riding.

The more and more laps I do the better and stickier the tires get. This has to do with eating away at that coating and warming them up.

I'd be willing to bet that it doesn't take anywhere near 100 miles of normal riding to get that coating off; it's just manufacturers and shops being safe.

every time i put new tires on my sv, i find a big parking lot and do a bunch of circles getting lower and lower with time. maybe about 15 minutes and your tires are nice and scrubbed in.

Re: Tell me your wreck stories

First crash, was riding my 2001 gsxr 750 in i guess 2003 on broad street with a group of friends, one of them starts a wheelie behind me in the left lane and starts to loop it right nex to me, he flips off the back and then the bike lands sideways and shoots over directly in front of me, i hit it and go over the bars, thanks to good gear all i got was a rashed knee, which wouldn't have happened if i had been wearing more than jeans, and broke my shoulder socket, which would have been worse if i hadn't been wearing my vanson with armor, you could see in the armor where it took alot of the impact, bike was totaled

second crash was at VIR's south course last year on my track bike, i think it was like first lap of the second session, coming into the downhill carosel section there was a group of slower riders, they entered and i couldn't see them after because its kind of blind from where i was, i was coming in pretty fast but misjudged their speed and distance, thought they would be through that part by the time i got into it, but when i get into it they are still just in the middle, your turning and downhill so i didn't try and touch the brakes but stood the bike up and jumped the curb on the right trying to go around the guy but its a series left right left turns and as i came off the curb he flicked the bike to the right directly in front of me and i ran into his rear and went down and tumbled, totally my fault, i lay there and watch as my bike is till upright and it goes around the turn with a group of riders all doing double takes at this riderless bike in their group, then it loses speed and stability and just falls over, i just hurt my toe a little bit when i tumbled, messed my helmet and leathers up pretty good but i was fine, the bike was slightly rashed but not bad at all, and the most important thing is the other guy didn't go down, and no one ever came to me in the paddock and cussed me out or even acknowledge that they had a bike ran up their ass

i've had a couple dirt bike and scooter crashes since but not really worth noting

Re: Tell me your wreck stories

1.
Ran over a re-tread on the Jersy turnpike on my F4. The front went over fine; my rear tire jumped 3-4 feet in the air. I was so happy that I was alive and didn't wreck that I didn't pull over right away. Finally calmed down and went to pull over; no front brakes!! Still had the rear though. PUll over under a light and I see all of my coolant leaking out. But as I was slowing down to pull over I noticed my brakes coming back.

I had bent both rotors so that the calipers couldn't grab while they were spinning. Cost me 800 bucks at a shop because I had to ride the bike back to Va 2 days later.

That's the last long distance trip I've taken on a bike.

2.
Pulling a stoppie out in Pungo with no gear on and being filmed. Brought the bike up about as far as I could have; but I forgot to lock out my elbows.

I fell off the front of the bike over the nose; the bike went back down on the rear normally and fell over.

My thigh took out my right mirror and the end to my shifter arm broke off. I had fun shifting the whole way home.

3.
Was doing some skidding/burnouts in the mud at one of our stops during a group ride. I decided to turn my mud slinging into a burn out. Once the rear tire connected with the dry pavement the bike froze and I fell over.

Scratched my stator cover.

4.
Last year at VIR coming into turn 7; passed a guy on the brakes (late braked him) on the left (outside). He drifted left to make a right handed turn (wtf?) and slammed into me.

I let him hit me because I had moved up too many positions to just give it up that easily. I ended up passing him and tried to again apply the brakes; no brakes!

He had clipped my steel braided lines (that I had just up-graded to that morning) and I had no brakes.

Tried to make the turn anyway (not knowing he had clipped my lines and thinking that I just had to build pressure back up in the lines after the bump) and I ended up going off into the grass.

Plastics got jacked up and I threw my helmet at the bike.

5.
An old woman pulled out in front of me and I hit her. I was able to brake enough as to not die; but I did get knocked over.

Long story short she had thousands of dollars in damage and I couldn't find a damn thing wrong with my bike.

I let her go and rode home...................not knowing that one of my rotors got bent (refer to story number 1). Went to a buddies house, but the tire on a balancer and pulled out the rotor with some plyers. Worked perfect ever since.

6.
Decided to run my brand new 2005 rr on 8 month old scrubs that had been sitting in my storage unit (and obviously heat cycling). Turn 1 at CMP during my fourth session was the time my front decided to wash out on me.

I had no warning and was down and tumbling before I knew it. The bike high sided once it hit the grass and I stopped myself from tumbling by putting my arms out.

Sharksins held up PERFECTLY!!!! ............well, I did have to repair them. But the plastics I have on my F4 would have been shredded.

I however didn't fair so well...................1 broken rhib, a few cracked rhibs...and I still feel the pain once in a while; and this happened Thanksgiving weekend!!
