Default summer tune up questions...

Just purchased a bike this winter and wanted to give it a tune up for the summer. It's my first bike and has around 20k miles on it. It has a new clutch and starts and runs fine but I'm not sure what kind of maintenance schedule was used to keep it running. Just wanted to know what I should be looking for in the way of a mechanical tune this summer.

oil/filter change, plugs, air filter, sync carbs/throttle bodies, lube pivot points, lube cables, adjust/lube chain, check brakes, check tires, maybe a valve adjustment depending on the mileage.

Sounds reasonable enough. Is this something I should try to undertake myself or should I see a mechanic to do any of this?

how hard is the valve adjustment...i've spent the $400 or whatever it is for that on a tuneup one year and that's just so much money dude?

damn dude, i charge $100.

as far as how hard, that depends on the bike. there's a couple different valve arangements. shim under bucket, shim over bucket, threaded, and the P.I.T.A. desmo's. threaded is by far the easiest, shim/bucket requires you to take the cams out to do any adjustments, and desmo just has twice as many friggin adjustments.
