Scott's steering stabilizer question
Okay, so I got the Scott's stabilizer for my '06 600RR. It seems like it works just great, however, in the instructions it states clearly that the tower pin spacer (located on the tower pin that goes through the frame/gas tank mount) is not by any means to make contact with the link arm coming off the stabilizer. I have tried this every way possible but no matter what even if I get plenty of space between the spacer and the link arm the tower pin goes from being flat on both sides to perfectly round meaning the link arm is not making contact with the spacer but now it's making contact with metal which can't be good. Is it possible I was sent a tower pin that was not designed for my bike? Am I being too critical with the spacer touching the link arm? I only ask cause I looked at my buddy's 1000RR and it looked nothing like mine at all. Please let me know if you have any helpful info! Thanks!

Re: Scott's steering stabilizer question
well, first off, a 1000rr has a factory electronic damper, it's nothing like your scotts. is there rubber grommets where the pin bolts to the frame at the front of the tank cover? if you take out the gromets, it may allow the pin holder to sit a little lower and keep it off the spacer.
it's kinda hard to say without having the bike in front of me, so i'm just kinda guessing here, but it's worth a try.

Re: Scott's steering stabilizer question
You should have posted up a picture cause I have no idea what you're talking about.
I have a Scott's damper on my '05 RR and I can't see where you're having so much difficulty.
There are two different mounts...............the one that goes on your triple tree for the damper itself and the mount that attaches with your two tank bolts for the pin that actually dampens the steering.
Once you get those two mounts on it's pretty simple. Mount the damper with two pins to the damper mount on the triple tree after you've mounted the pin on your tank.
Here's what it should look like on your bike:
PS: +2 on the 1000rr's having a stock damper. You can't base anything off of that.

Re: Scott's steering stabilizer question
Okay I made a mistake before. I meant to say my friend's 954 RR and it is the exact stabilizer I have. Scott's with the Ohlin's imprint on the top. Anyways, I've followed the instructions per Scotts and I've retained the two washers because they say to and they are basically telling me the problem is either the triple clamp mount that the stabilizer sits on is too low or the tank/frame mount is sitting too high. Well no shit! Anyone could figure that out. I obviously can tell that this is what's happening however I'm following instructions to the T. Sorry no pictures. A lot of people don't have luxuries like that. I know that's what it should look like. I mean damn, that's the pic that came with the scott's manual! I do realize the new 1000 RR's come with the stock stabilizer which I'm told is some straight garbage. But shit, who am I to compare anything after this crap I'm going through with this one?

Re: Scott's steering stabilizer question
Scotts and Ohlins are two different companies (as far as I know) so I don't see why/how his would be exactly like yours............but I'm sure they're close either way.
I pull in tomorrow morning and I can prolly give you a hand tomorrow or Monday if you like................just let me know.

Re: Scott's steering stabilizer question
Yeah this Has Ohlin's stamped on the back of it and Scott's on the top. So I called a Scott's rep....... He says I have all the correct hardware. Starts asking how old, the bike is, am I the first owner and have I done all the work so far. Well, it's brand new, yes and yes. He says it sounds like either the triple clamp is sitting to low or the tank tower bracket is setting to high. Either way it's causing the thing to not look right. He told me not to worry about it, but the more I look at this thing and see the nylon collar pressing the link arm up it makes me think it's going to cause some internal damage. Thanks for all of your help though. I guess for now I'll jusst play it by ear. Tore the damn mountains up yesterday though! Good times! Everyone have a safe holiday!
