i've never ridden a bike, but am looking at buying one. what quality bike can i get for around a grand? im not looking for anything bigger than a 250 or 500, and not a cruiser. and nothing that looks too 80's either. what should i consider?

You can probably find a used EX500, Ninja 250, or GS500 in the range you are looking for. All are excellent bikes to learn on. I also recommend taking the Motorcycle Safety Course. They have the course at TCC, but it fills up quick and there might be a long wait. The number there is 757-822-5247.

Also make sure you get good gear, and if at all possable, take someone who knows about bikes when you go look at a used bike.

And welcome to the scene...wouldn't trade my bikes for the world, and I usually don't even have the time to ride them!!!

no, the 2007 gsxr1000 is the best beginner bike.

Leave it on the 600cc setting until your ready to move up, then switch it to 750cc, and then 1000cc when your ready. Never have to buy another bike again...unless you fuck it up or drop it or something.


....story...I was at a bike meet and asked someone about their 07 gsxr1000 and they said it was their first bike, I was like WTF, then they explained how simple it was to switch between the power settings...pretty cool bike
