Non titled bike

I'm thinking of trading my bike for a bike that has a title that was lost. The owner says he has the bill of sale and can release it. Does any of this sound right?

If he's really the owner, he can go to the DMV and get a new title. Sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me.

He's saying they gave him the paper work and doesn't have the time to go get it notorized

If you have to ask this question, then do you really think it's a smart idea?

I'm not sure how the whole titling issue works or bill of sales either in this situation. Of course it sounds fishy but for all I know this could be some what common. That's why I asked. So I wouldn't be sorry later.

-Go to the DMV
-Show your ID (they will know what vehicles you own)
-They can issue a new title for $10

What paperwork is he talking about? You don't need to get anything notarized to get a copy of title for a vehicle you own.

I wouldn't even bother.

umm i had lost my title all they needed was my ID and verified my address and other personal info and type of vehicle. i think it was like $10 and they gave me a brand new title printed right out of the printer within seconds after talking to the clerk person i was out and on my way home. he shouldn't need to get anything notarized. unless the bike has a lien to it and he has no access to the title till the bike is paid off and that could be his reason for a "lost" title. but in the state of Virginia you dont need anything notarized.

if he has to get something notarized he more than likley brought the bike thru a storgae lein or from and auction...

and all banks have a notary on staff at all times iirc...so its not hard..
