NESBA track days - VIR 10/17-18

Anyone going? If you've never been on the track before, here's your chance. I'd highly recommend just signing up for at least one whole day, but if you're strapped for cash, do the intro course for FREE! Let me know if you need any details or if you just want know someone will be there with a cold one waiting for you.

Post up if you plan on attending.

Are you going?

Yes, both days. And you?

Don't know yet I usually go with TPM.

RidgeRacer 09-28-2010 06:24 PM

Re: NESBA track days - VIR 10/17-18

I don't have any experience with TPM, but I really do like NESBA. The CR's are great, there's plenty of them, and the other riders are nothing but friendly. So you've been to VIR before? Which configuration have you done?

Only NJMP & Shenandoah Summit so far but I do want to give VIR a try either this last few months or next year. Are you in the beginner, intermediate, or advance group?

Re: NESBA track days - VIR 10/17-18

 What group? Well, let's save my thoughts on that for a different thread. As of right now, I'm in the B group.

Come on man! Get a little rubber on that pretty 1098! What's it gonna take to get you down there? I already said beer. You're Philipino? Ok, how 'bout food from the grill... and maybe a San Miguel to wash it down? I just want everyone to enjoy this premier track that we have right in our backyard. VIR Patriot is a tight, twisty, little track with some elevation changes to boot. VIR Full is what most people (drivers or riders) think of when they think of VIR. I could pontificate all day about it and North, but I digress.

The RidgeRacer is an I rider, sticker pending! You should check out VIR sometime; it's a great track.

Friends have told me that Patriot is best suited for me and I feel better on technical circuits. No weekdays for me only weekend.

I'm in Blue Ridge, and ROCKIT is in Roanoke.
Yeah man, Patriot is on a Sunday, so there you go. That's the only configuration I've yet to do. It just so happens to be the cheapest as well. Need any more reasons to go?

membership fee?
passing rule, I heard that you can only pass when a coach/cr waves you by, can you confirm the validity of this rumor?

RidgeRacer 09-29-2010 06:53 PM

Re: NESBA track days - VIR 10/17-18

Well, you can sign up as a member for $75, which will make your track days cheaper. However, if you just want to feel it out for your first time, the intro (2 sessions) is free. If you want a full track day, and don't yet want to sign up as a member, its $140 for Sunday (Patriot) and $240 for Monday (Full).
As for passing, that depends on what group you're in. In B group you can only pass on the straight, and in I group you can only pass on the outside. I think the 'rumor' you're referring to is that a control rider has to wave you by for you to pass him. They're out there for crowd control and to make sure you're not riding over your head. Trust me, there's plenty of time for you to pass people and get your speed thrills.

Can someone explain how track days work? I've gone to Summit's or other track sites but they don't really spill the info on how to register.

Cost?
I'm assuming you need full leathers?
Other gear requirements?
What kind of bike prep is necessary?
What class will my Ninja 650 be in?
I've neverd "dragged knee", is that a concern?
Do they bike race at all tracks, VIR, MIR, Summit?
What are all the local tracks? 2.5hrs from the 703
Will you go through a set of normal street tires in one day?
How does insurance work if you crash?
When do I have to sign up for the free intro sessions?
And are they truely free?

Hmm thats all I can think of for now.....

aww donkey it's 4hours away! boo

Re: NESBA track days - VIR 10/17-18

You done? Heh, those are all good questions though. A lot of them can be answered on the NESBA typical track day page. If you don't have a suit, you can rent one for $50, but definitely sign up in advance for that and your track day.
So you don't drag your knee on the street?! Good! The track is the place for that. Nothing like a controlled environment to cut loose and legally do what would get you thrown under the jail normally.
As for tires, you will not wear out your street tires. In fact, you're really only burning up the sides, which is opposite of what you're doing on the street.
Yeah, from DC it's 4 hours, so I suggest you come down the evening before. I ride my daily driver/race bike down there and camp, though it's only 2 hours for me.
Let me know if the NESBA website doesn't answer all your questions. I'll do my best to answer them for you.

how was the track day?
you get bumped?

RidgeRacer 10-20-2010 04:06 AM

Re: NESBA track days - VIR 10/17-18

zoink, thanks for your contribution. Where's that engine?

Lars, I saw only a couple girls there, and one of them was brand new to the track. Leathers don't really show off a girl's curves ya know, so I probably saw her and didn't even know it was a girl.

sir loin, I don't know who those questions were directed at, but I'll answer them anyways. :D The track days were great! Patriot whipped my a**! My right quad and right arm are still sore. You've really gotta earn your way around that track. The straightaways were just long enough for me to start getting in to the good part of 3rd gear before you had to throw on the binders again. Control Rider Taylor really helped me get around that track better. As for Monday on Full, I'm much more confident and WAY faster than I was before. The sections that scared me don't scare me any more, and I was banging the rev limiter in 6th numerous times.
Oh, and I got the bump!! Wooooooo! I don't know how my ego will take getting passed with ease now, when I'm used to being the one doing the passing. But, I'll get to learn a lot and push myself even more.
