What happend? I looked over and saw what appeared to be a back wheel in the air. Ambulances and police soon followed. Walked over and someone was being laid onto a backboard and the bike looked fubar'd.

i showed up right after it happened. from what i heard, the person riding it was revving their engine, let go of the clutch while doing so, and ended up in the back of a mercedes.

Actually it was the side of a mercedes....the whole side.

On a side note, anyone know how she's doing? I know the bike was messed the fuk up!!!

And for the other newb riders on here...don't follow other people's leads, most of them are idiots! Ride your own ride, and don't out ride your skill level. Just because everyone else is doing something, doesn't mean you should.

Guess these are the details from what I know...hopefully others will learn from her mistakes. About 50 bikes decided to cruise the strip from the BP. They all lined up on Atlantic at the light. While waiting for the light, a bunch of them decide to rev up their motors. She reved her's up as well, but let the clutch slip. Nice chirp/ squeal from the tire, then the cruch when she hit the car. The crying followed suit. I don't blame her, I bet it hurt.

I wonder if this is the same dumb ass group of people as the one I saw 2-3months ago. A group of about 30+ riders going west on Va beach Blvd with a police escort. Near Haynes on Va Beach Blvd a guy on a newer R6 cuts off a car, with what I saw to be no more than 3 feet from the front bumper of the car, and immediately slows down and signals the other riders to get in front of him.

If a driver did that to me in my car, I'd be pissed. I just shook my head in disgust and thought how unorganized that group ride was. Newbies.

Btw, I've been in group rides with over 400+ bikes, most were harley and goldwings with only probably 20 sportbike in the group. Those guys did a good job planning and executing the ride.

From what I've put together, here is what happend:

The trolley stopped right in front of the Hilton driveway. Some riders did not feel like waiting for the trolley to move again, but could not drive around it because of oncoming traffic (solid double yellow lines anyway) and decided to ride on the sidewalk to avoid the wait. A couple of them actually pulled wheelies on the sidewalk, and some pulled through the Hilton driveway doing the same. The Mercedes was making a left, when she let out on the clutch and *bam*.

Story acquired from what I witnessed, some police accounts, other valets, Hilton security, and other bystanders. I have a camera phone picture of the bike, and in the background you can see her beeing loaded onto a backboard. Hope she's okay.

For everyone else, the BP has been heavily watched since by undercover units, motorcycle and bicycle units hiding behind the Catch 31 sign and the side of the hotel.

I was there and like to think I would have noticed wheelies on the sidewalk from 150' away...maybe not, but I didn't see it.

As for the BP being watched...it always has been. That is probably the reason why it has become "biker friendly", so they can get everyone together and feeling safe. I'm not worried about them watching me...I'm fully legal and don't do stupid stuff...at least not at the beachfront!
