Good started bikes?

Good started bikes?
I'm sure this question has been asked quite a few times but, I would like to get a bike, my first bike, to just get a feel for 'em and ride it on the nicer days. I'll be keeping my car for bad weather ect...
I was curious about what bikes would be a good first bike as far as sport bikes go. I don't plan on buying brand new, I wanna buy something thats a lil older and less expensive so if I don't like it there's not a huge loss or I'm stuck with payments. Nothing thats too insane or hard to control but, something thats still nice that I can learn to ride and control on. Just some basic model information and what I might expect to spend on the bike as well as the good insurance companies is all I need.
Company
Year
Motor
ect.
I'll use yahoo and whatever else to get specifics and learn more about each bike.
Thanks guys.
EDIT: title was ment to say "starter"

Re: Good started bikes?
anything sub 600cc would be fine(except sv650 which is semi-ok for s first bike). If you have to have a 600 get an older one from the 90's. They're almost all reliable and its just something to learn on
ex500, gs500, fzr600, old zx6e, old zx6r, cbrd f2, any sv650, hawk gt, any jap standard/UJM under 750cc, fzr400
more importantly than the bike is taking the msf class and practicing. I'd trust a newbie with a level head on a new 600-1000cc bike before some squid with no training at all on a smaller bike

Re: Good started bikes?
most people say to start on a 250 (kawi, etc.).
if you're slightly above the average learning curve, id recommend a mid 90's honda (cbr F2) or yamaha (FZR 400, FZR600).
you will learn more on a slower bike than you will on a more powerful bike. here's something you can read through too: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=585065
