fairing mending question

Hi guys,

quick question: I was cleaning the bike yesterday and I noticed I had a nice hairline crack running left and right from the left side fairing, right in the area where the bolt goes to hold the fairing on. since I've never removed the fairing yet, I didn't do it. I can only assume that whoever took off/put on the fairing last torqued down the bolt a little too hard and caused a crack, which now is quite large.

is there anything, short of purchasing a new fairing, to stop the crack?

if the fairing is plastic like the majority, I would say plastic weld it. If it's fiberglass, it may require a bit more work.

I am sure another opinion will chime in.

old dirtbike/atv trick- drill a tiny hole at either end of the crack, it won't get any bigger.

as far as fixing it, it's possible to plastic weld the backside in such a way that no one would notice it, but it take ALOT of patience and skill to do it without affecting the paint on the outside of the panel. Too much heat will burn paint pretty quickly.

or just do it the cheap and easy way and use some good quality epoxy on the inside. scuff the plastic first so it sticks properly, and have at it. For hairline cracks that'll usually take care of it, but not always.

i love how just pulling the plastics off a sportbike is now called a "fighter"...

if u do this, it is not a street fighter its just a sportbike without fairings.. sum of u guys need to read up on and how to build a street fighter

as much as it pains me (j/k stock, don't get all uppity, lol)..... I have to agree with stock. ripping the plastic off just makes it a naked sportbike, not a 'fighter, imo.

fighter:

naked sportbike (albeit with DB bars):

edit: both of those were my bikes, so I can say whatever the hell I want about them :D

the difference is in the work/details. the gixxer was put together from crap that was laying around, the 954 was just a stripped sportbike, there IS a difference.

this has been a public service announcement brought to you by...uh....me :D :D

sorry this post is so far off subject, lol.
