Break in question
My 2008 GSX-R 600 now has just over 500 miles. I need to call the dealership to schedule an appointment for the break in service but chances are that because of my work schedule I will not be able to get the bike over there until sometime next week.
The weather here is pretty crappy but if things clear up I would really like to ride the bike to work. Should I avoid doing this until I'm able to get the bike to the dealership for the break in service?
I live about 43 miles from my job and 37 miles from the dealership. If I were to ride the bike directly from my job to the dealership, that would be about 33 miles. All of this is highway.
In short, should I avoid riding the bike to work (~90 highway miles round trip) until I get the break in service performed?

Re: Break in question
the first few hundred miles wears the motor in faster than any other time, you'll have alot of metal particles in your oil right now. change your oil. hell, on any new motor i build i usually tell the customer to change the oil at 50 miles, not 500.
and for the record, "first service" just consists of an oil/filter change and making sure everything is adjusted properly (chain tension/etc). if you can change your own oil and adjust your own chain, you can save yourself alot of time and money.

Re: Break in question
I wouldn't bother going to the dealership for the first service. Just change the oil/filter make sure all the nuts and bolts are tilt tight and that the chain tension is still acceptable. its pretty easy and straightfoward. Get a copy of the sevice manual online they are all over the place for free. You can even get a copy off of ebay probably if you don't trust the free downloaded stuff. just follow the instructions couldn't be easier!!
