Default Before you bought your bike....

i've always known that bikes are fun methods of transportation. unparralled factory speed, great handling, relatively low maintenance, great mpg's, and they also look pretty damn cool.

i never really paid much attention to them seriously, but my girl is very heavy into them. Not so much as a mechanic/teckie for bikes, just likes their performance and riding them.

she's wanting me/us to get a bike for us to ride. i don't want her taking rides from other guys, and i really dont want her to get her own bike as im too worried about her safety. i just try to look out for her.

tonight i rode on the back of my buddies gsxr600 (no homo). i havent even ever been on a dirtbike before, just my mongoose 10 speed.

i enjoyed the feeling of acceleration with it...i can handle the speed aspect, its just the lack of safety devices that worries me. a rock in the road and ur dead. that freaked me out. we topped out at 120 (i told him to take it hella easy on me).

is this a normal feeling to have? were you scared/nervous about the high speed and safety before you bought your bike? did you get 'broke in' to the bike world? am i in the right for feeling how i do?

thanks.

my buddy didnt do any knee dragging or crazy turning....we were on a country road and he just let me get a feel for the acceleration and fitment of a bike.

to me the biggest fear is coming off the bike. i havent been able to wrap myself around the idea that you WONT lift off the bike at speed, especially being that u'r not strapped on to anything, just holding on to plastic.

i'd definately take the safety course, i think its mandatory in VA anyway.

he has a full suit/heltmet deal, as he does amatuer events at VIR and etc, but last night we were just in helmets.

he also has one of those mohawk helmets. i know he's a squid. but he's responsible. out of all the guys i know with a bike, he's the only one i trusted to ride with.

For speed being a factor, the bike will only go as fast as you want it to. I've only broke 100 once and that was out on a country road with no spectators/traffic. But then again, I am kind of a little wuss.
