01 F4i running rough
my 2001 F4i with 2,600 miles on it started running rough out of the blue. It ran perfectly before this. The idle and low rpm (under 4k) kindof sputter as if it's running on 3 cylinders or starving for fuel; however the top end is fine, still pulls as hard as ever. It starts up fine, although it seems to get slightly worse as it runs longer and warms up. Any ideas? All I've done so far to test it is pull the plugs; they look fine.
Thanks!

The plugs may look fine but I'de replace them anyway. I ran into this same kind of problem when I first got my 97 gsxr and the plugs looked fine but still replaced them and havent had any problems.

Re: 01 F4i running rough
not that this may be your problem, but I've seen a number of fuel injected hondas do the same thing, all for the same reason. The "new" methanol gas has a tendency to eat the rubber diaphram on the fuel pressure regulator. VERY easy to check.
lift the tank, disconnect the vacuum line from the pressure regulator, turn the key on. If you get gas coming out of the vacuum line when the pump comes on... there's your problem.
Just a suggestion, not saying it's your problem for sure.

Re: 01 F4i running rough
lol I just picked this one up- inspection was from 06 so I'm guessing it sat in this guy's garage for several years. Rode great for 300 miles before it started acting up. No power commander or anything thus far.
Thanks Skrooze! I will check that for sure.
Guess I should replace the plugs since it's been sitting, just hate paying $11 a plug for the OEM ones. I'll try those and let ya'll know what happens; in the mean time, I'd welcome more suggestions.
PS Yung_Wallace I ride year-round- put 6k miles on my last zx6r in the 9 months I had it, I rode it in as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit this past winter

Re: 01 F4i running rough
just to update you guys, it turns out the fuel pressure regulator is indeed bad. Gonna try to get one off of a buddy who has built a few f4i engines for VT's formula team; hopefully that one will be good. Thanks for the help!
