Default Places for lunch

Going to Richmond to look at some granite, while I'm there figured I'd have lunch afterwards. Anyone have any suggestions for some NON chain restaurants where I could grab some grub and/or what I should order?

Oh, thats not the best area. You would have to venture out to short pump to get anything decent.

http://chensrestaurant.net/

Theres Tara Thai if you want some Thai food.
http://www.tarathairichmond.com/

Theres Maggiano's Little Italy if you want italian.
http://www.maggianos.com/

And thats just a few. You can probably find 5-7 more good ones, just by driving through.

those are all chains...

thai diner II in carytown, personal favorite for the panang curry
bottoms up pizza in shockoe bottom... anything is good there but i like the hawaiian
cafe europa shockoe bottom, tapas bar
starlite diner off of main in the west end has pretty ill tacos, cheap too
edo's squid, VCU grace and i forget the cross street... excellent italian
cous cous, VCU moroccan/tapas style, pretty tasty

that side of 64 you are kind of screwed if you dont want a chain. everything i listed is pretty much in the city. and out of that list i think you gotta do thai diner.

Chen's is alright, but certainly not worth the 15-20 minute drive. Also, there is nothing in Short Pump worth fighting the traffic for.
