Default Stock ZR1 into the 10s at MIR

Well my Dad and I took his ZR1 to a private track rental at MIR this past Wed. This rental was orginized by Ranger on the corvettforum. Ranger is well known for getting fast times out of stock Vettes. He has run a best of 10.85 in his stock C6 Z06 on drag radials. The idea was to let Ranger get some runs in the car to see what he could do along with how I could fair. We ended up running the piss out of the car with a total of 26 runs on the car ( I had 18 and Ranger had 7). My manual tranny drag racing skills were rusty to say the least. I have run a manual car at the strip less than 5 times in the past 10 years. Here is a video of my best run a 11.05@129.05 with a 1.75 60' on stock tires.

If my shifting was not so mediocre it would have been a 10 for sure. I even did better than Ranger on stock tires, who had a best of 11.21@130.45 with a 1.90 60' but he had a few other runs in the 131mph range. Even though he was taking it easy on the launch he is a shifting machine, fast and spot on his shift points every time. Towards the end of the day we decided to put on a set of drag radials that Ranger had. I had never run on DRs before. We only have time for a few more passes and Ranger took 3 of which his last 2 were both 10.98s with his best a 10.981@131.87mph with a 1.78 60'. Here is the video of his 2 runs.

On my 2nd Dr run I did pull another 1.75 60' but again my shifting was not up to par and only ended up with a 11.10. I did pull another 1.79 60' on the stock tires but I ended up hitting 5th instead of third and went through the traps in 5th but still ran a 11.4. If you want to read more details of the day check out this thread http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-...our-report.html

Cool.

Your times aren't bad at all for first time with car. Those are very hard cars to drive. Welll, I've driven a z06 and it was a bitch, I can only imagine a zr-1.

Ranger is a hell of a driver, but can't wait to see what Jamie Furman does with the car tho. He has the best times with the new viper and the z06 as well.

I'm hoping to make it to a private rental sometime this year as well.

Awesome that you guy did that... I know Ranger has been looking to get behind the wheel of one for a long time.

Any heat soak issues hot lapping the car like that?

While the 1/4 mile times aren't lower than the C6Z bone stock, trapping 131 shows the true power difference. From a roll race the ZR1 will walk the C6Z with ease.

I am sure that if we had allowed for longer cool downs and less passes we could have seen greater mph but we were really just trying to learn the car. In general though heat soak did not seem to have that great of an effect. Rangers best time and mph (131.87) on DRs was his 3rd in a set and my best was also the 3rd or 4th of a set. Ranger was going very easy on the launches since it was not his car, his best 60' on stock tires was only a 1.90. We did not put the drag radials on the car until the very end of the day so he wanted make sure he got a few runs in before the time was up so he was extra easy. His 60' on DRs were not quite a good as my best on stock tires. If he had launched the car like he does his Z06 then we would have seen a 1.6 60' and some 10.6 or 7s.

One thing to think about when comparing to the Z06 best drag times, on my first day ever driving a bone stock ZR1 at a drag strip, with my limited drag racing experience, I beat every single (known) bone stock Z06 1/4 time except one, Jamie's. That one run was completed with a DA 2000 ft less than my run and a better driver.

Yeah, a lot of them are trying to make themselves feel better about the fact that the z06 is no longer the fastest corvette. The zr-1 also puts them into a whole other cost that most z owners couldn't afford. So now they are trying to justify owning their z, which is really dumb cuz the z06 is still such an amazing car.
