i some what agree to that. the design of the roll cage/bar probaly is a major fail in this incedent but i would trust a weld on more than a bolt on since a bolt on may be at fault to where it may dissasemble if not properly put on right, but with a weld on the bars are confined to the bare metal in which they are welded on to.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the exact same thing happen if that was welded in? No matter if it's welded or bolted, if it's in the middle of just a floor panel and not over the frame rail it's still going to punch through. But that obviously wouldn't be a properly designed rollbar if welded like that. I'll have to check to see where my Autopower 4pt mounts.

^That's what I was saying. For that particular bar in that car I don't think having it welded would have made any difference.

This is why I'm scared of flipping my wrx with my autopower 4 pt roll bar... It would punch through the floor and the harnesses would snap my back. would it not?

This is why bolt on cages arent legal in almost all auto sport clubs etc. I know NASA doesnt allow them.

I was chatting with friends about roll cages/safety stuff over lunch a couple weeks ago. Apparently in the SCCA's Spec Rx-7 class, they're all required to use a full bolt-in cage.

The topic came up because one of my friends that runs srx7 was wondering if anyone would try to get him dq'd for having the main hoop boxed.
