You were right, I was just talking in more generic terms. If the car starts with high negative offset, going to a low offset (low negative, zero, low positive, whichever) does move the contact patch far away from where it starts (high negative offset). So I don't think he should go to a low offset, no. You can have wide wheels with the same offset though, or slightly different than stock. Offset is just offset, it's just relative to the wheel centerline so it's independent of width.
I just don't want him to kill the handling of such a fun car just to have aggressive looking wheels, that's my only point.
