The thing I have against 3M laminate is that it's like putting plastic on a sofa - who are you saving it for? At least with the flaps it always looks how it is supposed, though some may find that it looks worse than without flaps. With the 3M it always just looks wrong.

the 3m laminate is going to get dirt around the edges, and it's not going to stay clear forever, and it's going to get all dinged up....
stick with the mudflaps. my car came with 3m laminate on the rear doors right before the rear wheel, and i yanked that shit off after 5k miles.

honestly they're not very noticeable.. i'd just keep em rather than shelling out the extra cash for 3M.
