The only people who don't take American sports cars seriously are ignorant fanbois. The Camaro isn't a sportscar.

Haha I know that, just being facetious. I wonder how well GM would do if they made a car to compete with the BRZ and FRS. I feel like there's a demand for fuel efficient 4 bangers that are RWD. Or Ford/Dodge.

Who said anything about street racing? I understand less weight means better handling but at the same time sacrificing a/c and a radio is pretty much making this a track only car. I don't know about you but I would not like to cruise in a car with no a/c or radio. A mustang has less weight and almost the same power yet sell more cars the camaros so the point of high price for power is moot. My straight line car comment was intended for drag racing at the track. If you think more people are going to auto cross or race these at RIR than 1/4 mile race them at a track you are very mistaken.

Re: 2014 Camaro Z28
They already did that... they were called the Solstice and Sky. Regardless a Corvette already gets close to 30 mpg highway and the new C7 supposedly gets 30+. The BRZ/FRS is a dumb looking car that could have been much more. It's slow too.

I'm not a big fan of them, but that's just my taste. If the Corvette is getting close to 30 mpg, then shouldn't they be able to make a cheaper car with half the cylinders that makes mid 200's hp low 200's torque and get close to 40 mpg? For someone that can't afford a Vette but wants something fun/economical to toy with it would be a good option I think...but that's just speculation. I forgot about the Solstice and Sky, but weren't those also only two seaters? I think a lot of people like the "practicality" of the 2+2 seating.

The Corvette does get close to 30 MPG and has since the C5 but the price of a Corvette is a lot different than a BRZ/FRS or a Solstice/Sky(which are over priced for what you get) or a Miata for that matter.
I think there is a market for a cheap sports car that has more nuts than a BRZ/FRS or a Miata but is lighter and handles better than a muscle car such as a Mustang or Camaro.

And the Solstice and Sky were horrible to drive as far as visibility goes. They were also slow unless you got a GXP/Redline version. So yes they did that, but as with most GM stuff, they managed to screw it up and cancel it.

Re: 2014 Camaro Z28
thread says z/28 and i hear miata talk. the american car industry has exiled FRS( Front engine Rear wheel drive Sports cars) as a whole ( reasonably priced ones of course) American brands just cant compete with asia and Europe. for a well balanced FRS. in America its go big or go home, big engines and big bodies is all we* know. want an american car comparable to the miata- BRZ/FRS/GT86? - used c5 corvettes.
on topic- the new camaro looks great, and the track readyness is a great idea. but i hope it doesnt cost more because.... well... because racecar.
