1905 Darracq
#1
1905 Darracq
There is something so cool about these old cars.
Set a world record in 1908 @ 121.57 mph
25.4 LITER V8 aircraft engine
Iron cylinder /Alloy crankcase
Single cam, OHV
2 carbs
Approximately 200hp
2 speed manual
Drums on rear only
When men still dressed like men and drove cars that matched. No Famous t-shirts and Honda Civics here
The designer could not stay within the weight limit by having two straight four's so he built a 90 degree V8 on a common crankcase using just one four cylinder crankshaft and camshaft. Darracq took the bore out to 170mm to make a very over-square motor at 170x140. This engine was rated at a nominal 200hp with a displacement of 25,422 cc
The actual car in action, @ 30 going deep in the corner with lots of smoke, just like a real drifter
